Introducing different varieties of freshly baked breads to a rice-eating city is no mean task.

Alain Phan has wowed the residents of and visitors to Pondicherry with an aromatic selection of breads, pastries, chocolates and European style sandwiches at his quaint bakery. He now brings his goodies to “Tryst”- call it a bakery, café, a deli or a great hangout! Tryst is promoted by the young and optimistic Omar Sait of Gatsby.

The bread basket in Neelangarai is tucked away in the premises of the well known Gatsby Village. Every morning, freshly baked bread is transported from Pondicherry to Tryst, and by noon its’ almost all gone! Such is the demand in the area for rye bread, French loaves and croissants.

Alain Phan started off with the fashion industry in France, till he realized that his true calling was fashioning bread and other goodies, when he relocated to Pondicherry in India. That was the beginning of “Baker’s Street” in Pondicherry, and now his breads are travelling far and wide, tempting Chennai palates. Alain Phan also supplies the freshly baked chocolate twisters, mille feuille, meringues, éclairs, macaroons, fruit tarts etc. The café offers all day dining, but its piece de la resistance remains the heady aroma of freshly baked bread, which is pulling in the crowds…
