Well, Chennai Heritage has roped in artist K Saravanan, famous for his black and white sketches, to graphically capture the nuances of the city’s many exquisite heritage buildings in – what else – black and white sketches, and got it printed on T shirts and coffee mugs. So now, you can raise a toast to the city, just by sipping in your cuppa, and wear you city-pride on your sleeve, sorry, T shirt.

These line drawings bring to our mind the beauty of heritage buildings like the Egmore Museum (Victoria Memorial Hall), the Victoria Public Hall near the Central Railway Station, Ripon Building, and Valluvar Kottam. Printed on black or white backdrops, these drawings make a classy impact. The T shirts are available in sizes M, L and XL and priced at Rs. 250 each and the mugs are priced at Rs. 200. A purely non-profit venture, the proceeds will be used up to support the activities of Chennai Heritage, such as studies, activities and projects for preserving art and culture, conservation and restoration of heritage buildings and precincts, protection of the natural environment and enhancing civic responsibilities in Metropolitan Chennai. Chennai Heritage earlier raised over Rs. 2.5 crores for the restoration of the Senate House.
