Sekhar Kammula’s ‘Happy Days’ leaped with incredible laurels as even non-Telugu speaking audiences appreciated his aesthetic sense. This flick had a tenuous plot in the backdrops of college life and perhaps turned to be the cynosure for universal audiences. Well, the Tamil remake ‘Inidhu Inidhu’ doesn’t boast of any modifications from the original version, which makes it a mediocre.
The film is about group of students joining college and their journey of next 4 years. A memorable journey brimmed with sprouting friendships, love at first sight, hostilities with seniors that are trivialized later, and sacrifices for friends, misunderstandings, egoisms popping up, reconciliations and finally walking out of college campus.
The newcomers have performed at their best and K.V. Guhan requires special mention for getting them right on their parts. However, he could have made changes pertaining to characterizations from original version. Say for instance, the characterization of Tyson doesn’t interest the major group of audiences while it was received well in Telugu version. Reshmi enacts the role that was performed by Thamannah in ‘Happy Days’. Reshmi has to work a lot on improvising her acting skills.
K.V. Guhan should have trimmed the duration as the story without any conflicts and twists for a running duration of more than 140mins makes us restless. On the pars, there are few interesting factors like a new entrant getting attracted towards English lecturer for her good looks and flair fluency in English. Tyson’s love for his senior girl is literally perplexing, but the open ending to this portion has been done well.
As on whole, ‘Inidhu Inidhu’ is sure to rekindle the nostalgic memories of college days while for others, it’s a raw-drama that in no way interests them.
Verdict: Good attempt
