What do you expect when successful people of the film industry come together? If not a blockbuster, at least a hit right? Expectations were the same when it was about K.S. Ravikumar, Surya and Harris Jayaraj coming together for ‘Aadhavan’.

But when viewed on the screens, the film is a mere disappointment with clichéd entertainment factors failing to engross the audience.

The film is about a contract killer Aadhavan (Surya), a sharpshooter by profession, who’s target has never missed. He works for Ibrahim Rowdar (Shiyaji Shinde) and now gets assigned by Dr. Reddy (Rahul Dev) to kill magistrate Subramaniam (Murali). But as his target misses the magistrate, he hatches plans to move inside his house as a cook and get the job done. But then, every time he sets out to bump him off, his plans are shattered.

Rest of the story is all about the buried past getting unraveled with a surprising climax.

Surya does his job well in dance and stunts. But in comedy sequences, he tries to imitate Vijay. Nayanthara doesn’t get enough scope to perform and fails to do the right job. It’s Vadivelu stealing the show with excellent performance while Saroja Devi lives up to the expectation. Murali stuns with his performance and Rahul Dev sleepwalks through his role.

Harris Jayaraj’s musical score isn’t as interesting as his previous projects with Surya. Except couple of songs: ‘Dhamakku’ and ‘Hasiliye’, none of the songs are quite interesting. Cinematography is top-notching and editing is sleek and stylish.

The first half runs out of story as there aren’t any specified moments in the tale while the latter part gets slowed down with the long flashback sequences.

On whole, ‘Aadhavan’ is an average fare that may work out well in box office. But it doesn’t carry anything special and unique as in Surya’s previous films.

Verdict: Below average.
