Yes, this has become a reality, with the Buddhist Circuit Special train which offers pilgrims an undiluted eight days of pilgrimage in comfort. The package includes hotel stays, tours and all meals.Indian Railways is offering this unusual spiritual journey, on board this exclusive, air-conditioned train. The package will transport you to Sarnath, Bodhgaya, Rajgir, Lumbini, Kushinagar, Nalanda, Varanasi and Agra. Buddha advocated visits to sacred pilgrimage sites, and spoke of attaining moksha by doing so. Buddha was born in Lumbini and he taught his first sermon in Sarnath. It was in Bodhgaya that Buddha attained enlightenment and attained Nirvana in Kushinagar.

The Buddhist Circuit Special leaves the Safdarjung Railway Station, New Delhi for Gaya, where the devout will visit Mahabodhi temple, Japanese temple, Buddha statue, Niranjan river and Bimbisara jail. They will then proceed to visit the ruins of the Nalanda University and spend time at the Nalanda museum, and proceed to Varanasi. Visits to Sarnath, Ashokan pillar, Dhamekh stupa, Ganges ghat and evening aarti will follow before the pilgrims leave for Gorakhpur. Coach trips will take the pilgrims to Kushinagar, Mahaparinirvana temple, Rambhar stupa and Matakutir temple. Next stop will be Lumbini and Sravasti before the pilgrims proceed to Agra.
