The opening of the Rustic Food Fest at Hotel Savera was simply out of the world.
As we entered we were greeted by kili-josiam(parrot astrology) and eli-josiam(white mice astrology) folks specially brought in from down south. The rural ambience in Malgudi was mind blowing and the guests slowly got into the mood. It was then time for an informative and interactive session about the various nuances of cooking the rustic way by the chefs. Also present at the venue were a couple of maamis who were cooking `kappa vadai` the traditional way - in the traditional stoves and earthen pots and idlies in palm leaves! We were in a hurry to leave, but the food was too tempting and the waft of aroma made us stop, atleast for a small bite.
We were soon devouring delicious kappa vadais and cheru chapa pulasu to our heart`s content. More on the menu were mamasa saaru, meen curry, vaete mamsam biryani and other lesser known, yet delicious rustic food which have been passed down from past generations. Also doing the rounds was the magician with his `damroo` enchanting the guests with his little tricks. What would be of worth a mention is he calls himself `Current`!
Needless to say, Nina Reddy was the perfect host and her army of stewards and stewardesses were just too happy to help.
Savera is located at 146, Dr. Radhakrishnan Salai, Mylapore, Chennai 600004
