A slice of Arabia in Chennai?

Most restaurants in Chennai serve Indian, Chinese and Tandoori….whatever that combination means! But here’s a restaurant that dishes out Arabia cuisine along with the timeless favourites: Chinese and Indian.

“Zaitoon” recently opened in Shastri Nagar, and gauging by how crowded it was, has already become popular! They have ventured to serve authentic Arabic cuisine. Looz Shorba is a delicately blended almond soup and a good pick-me-up on nippy evenings. The barbecue chicken was perfectly done and had just that hint of spice. The mixed grill Mushakkal is a combination of meats, marinated and barbecued. If you like mutton then try the mutton ribs called Riyesh. Or try the crisp pastry squares with a dash of pepper called Al-Motubug. You can also try the all-time favourite shawarma, which comes with delicately spiced, slivered lamb.

Arabic cuisine is all about meat. So, if you are a vegetarian, there’s little choice for you. The cuisine uses plenty of thyme, saffron, garlic and mint. The cuisine is all about marinating and cooking on slow fire, which can include barbeque or grilling.
