Can the summer sun wreak havoc on your crowning glory? Find out what you can do to save your mane from the onslaught of the harsh summer sun…
Summer translates as sweat. And for those who sweat profusely on the scalp it also translates as salt deposits on the scalp as well as on the hair shaft. This not only damages the cuticles but also makes your hair lifeless, dry and frizzy. So here’s what you can do about it…
• Avoid blow drying your hair through the summer. More heat will only damage the hair further.
• It is wise to use mild (or PH based) shampoos and conditioners
• Stay away from perming /straightening / colouring treatments for the hair through the summer months.
• Cover your hair if you are out in the harsh sunlight during summer months.
• These days you can buy hair conditioners which contain sunscreen. Invest in one of these if you want to pamper your hair in the summer.
• Shampoos / conditioners that contain silicone work on making your hair softer
• When using a conditioner, ensure you keep it on for 5-10 minutes before rinsing it off.
• Swimming may be the perfect way to cool off during the summer, but chlorine can cause irreparable damage to your hair. Wash your hair clean with a mild shampoo after a swim.
• For frizzy hair, use some hair serum after a wash, on the mid-section and the ends of your hair.
• Drink lots of water. If your system stays well-hydrated through hot days, your hair will also reap the benefit- and it will stay hydrated.
Don’t take your crowning glory for granted through the summer. A little extra care and pampering will go a long way in ensuring a healthy mane!
