Lets Salsa!

The Lourd Vijay Dance School which conducts the Annual Chennai Salsa Festival was back in Chennai and they conducted the festival this year with three parties and two workshops.

Lourd Vijay an expert choreographer and a wonderful performer was there with his team to help the people through the sensuous Salsa movements. There were men and women from all walks of life and across age groups. Businessmen who were there to re-energize themselves. College boys and girls who wanted to learn the dance form to shake that leg during a Saturday Night Party and all of them were there because of their passion for dancing. And the whole idea of Workshops in the morning and parties in the evening allowed the crowd to interact socialize and have a great time together. The Highlights of this festival were of course the Cuban Salsa classes taught by the Francois L. Marinez, from Paris, and Tom Lion, from Pondicherry and the kizomba workshop by Raquel Lemos from Portugal.

The workshops had an informal feel and Lourd and his team were there to make people feel at ease with the salsa movements. This annual event aims at not only teaching people the joy of Salsa but also to spread the Salsa culture which is a mystery at the moment but there are a lot of people getting on the floor and dancing the night away. In fact there is a dedicated Salsa night at Havana in The Raintree. Salsa is catching up in Chennai and we might even end up renaming Palk strait as the Strait of Gibraltar.
