The UNIFI Chennai School Regatta 2009 was a grand success.

Eighty two participants from 25 schools competed for the Overall UNIFI Championship and several individual trophies conducted at The Rowing Centre, Koovathur from 20th to 22nd November.

Teams from the Andamans, Kolkatta, and Bengaluru joined Chennai schools in this first ever event of its kind in South India. A highlight of this regatta was the introduction of the under twelve category to spot young talent.

The indoor rowing competition made it possible for several sports enthusiasts who had not learnt to row before, to take part in the championship, and enjoy a taste of the sport.
The Regatta was a stepping stone towards inculcating a passion for rowing amongst a large section of youngsters. It also succeeded in fostering a sense of camaraderie among the contestants.

It takes a lot of effort to get an event this size organized. The credit goes to The Rowing club for conducting an exciting event of this magnitude.

The Rowing Club with its rowing facility is situated on the clean and serene backwaters along the East Coast Road, about seventy kilometers from Chennai.

There was a lot of excitement in the air during the regatta which was inaugurated by Mr. Sanjay Arora, IG Armed Police and the chief guest, Mr. Krishnammachari Srikkanth, distributed the prizes. 

The Overall team Championship was won by St. Michaels Academy closely followed by Chettinad Vidyashram.
