
The Only Place started sometime in the early Sixties and was the first restaurant to introduce steaks, pastas and burgers to Bangalore
Those days, steaks, sizzlers, baked dishes and pastas were indeed a rarity in India. An eerie but interesting fact is that when they started out, The Only place shared their premises with a coffin maker. But people still came to have the great steaks and burgers and above all else the apple pie with fresh cream, which even today is known to be the best in town.
The ambience is casual and courtyard style, open on the sides with a red Mangalore tiled roof covered sit-out. The lighting is low with a few lanterns here and there to create a warm, cozy glow. The place is usually full on weekends and a 15 -20 minute wait is very likely.
Look for the day’s specialties on the blackboard. Their lasagne, both the chicken as well as the vegetarian option is quite good, and their burgers are also nice. Their steaks are not very juicy and are more meaty than tasty, so you may want to give that a pass, unless you are a die-hard steak fan. For dessert the apple pie is a must have, though you could also try the cherry or peach pie, blueberry cheesecake, traditional trifle pudding or the chocolate layered cake. Service tends to be a little slow and you could be sipping your diet Coke for a while before the meal arrives. Portions are quite large and it’s not too expensive.
