Slivers of Blue Ginger…

Now if you live in Bangalore or are just passing through and have an evening free, we recommend you drop by the “Blue Ginger†for a memorable evening…

“Blue Ginger†is Bangalore’s claim to delicious Vietnamese cuisine, amidst heavenly ambience at Hotel Taj West End, better known as the grand old lady of Bangalore. Step into lush landscaped lawns studded with flowering frangipanis drooping over glassy water bodies. The décor borrows from the cuisine and is replete with dim lanterns, wood, stone and silk. The ambience is sure to stimulate your appetite.

Vietnamese chefs dominate the large show kitchen, proudly displaying their prowess. The menu offers coconut based curries which are slightly pungent with a hint of sweetness, and go best with steamed white rice. The curries are served in clay pots, adding to the charm. The Vietnamese paper rolls are stuffed with shredded chicken, shrimp or vegetables and are a good initiation to this specialty cuisine.

The vegetarians have ample choices with specialty delights on the menu, including raw papaya, lotus root, mushrooms, stir-fried greens, okra, roasted peanuts, raw mango, bamboo shoots and lemon grass. Apart from the regular dishes, there are a variety of garden fresh salads and aromatic soups (try Congee rice soup) to tickle the palates of die-hard vegetarians.

The carnivorous can satiate their appetite with tiger prawns with slivered ginger, steamed fish, Hanoi lamb, Vietnamese spare ribs, succulent chicken with a hint of lemon grass, Can Tho clams (steamed) and Bo la lot (ground beef steamed in betel leaves with Vietnamese herbs) or crab in green pepper sauce. Best eaten with fried rice, steamed rice, noodles or the hard bread some dishes are served with.

End the meal with a scoop of lemon grass ice cream or a cup of hot Vietnamese coffee to complete the experience…
