If you are a sea food freak, we know just the restaurant you should be heading for!
There are sea food lovers, who have a passion and almost an innate reverence for the fruit of the sea. Watch their eyes light up when you mention jumbo prawns, succulent scampi, grilled fish or crunchy calamari! If you qualify as one of these, we recommend you take a long scenic drive along ECR towards Mahabalipuram, and stop at the gates of Heaven: “Moonrakers”
This restaurant isn’t plush or posh, but the cuisine it offers is to die for! It may appear like a Goan shack at first, but as you step into the dimly lit interiors, the heady aroma of freshly cooked seafood and spices is enough to transport you. Ask for the fresh catch of the day, and if you are lucky, you may even get fresh shark meat!
Get set to take your pick from the choicest crab, lobsters, prawns, fish or calamari! They are happy to cook your choice of seafood, the way you like it. The dieters can opt for the grilled version, while others can pick from spicy curries, smothering masalas and even Chinese!
The crunchy batter fried calamari is an absolute must-try! The grilled prawns come laced with tempting butter and diced garlic. The tandoori pomfret come with the delicate smoky flavour, smothered in a tingling, spicy masala. The variety of fish curries include those with a generous helping of coconut milk, tangy tamarind or pungent Chettinad masala.
Moonrakers is all about sea food. But they do have an odd chicken or meat dish on the menu. The die-hard vegetarians won’t find much on offer. The accompaniments include steamed white rice, crisp, flaky parathas or soft naans. The place is packed with visiting tourists, expatriates from Chennai and local people. It may be wise to go early, for they invariably run out of the fresh catch due to the high demand.
