Take a bite of god’s own country! Yes, welcome to “Nalukettu” – a restaurant in Nehru Nagar, serving authentic Kerala cuisine.The décor is simple, the restaurant is clean and Malyalam music makes the ambience perfect! The crowds are a testimony in itself.

Fresh steaming appams went well with the vegetable stew. The food was tasty, with distinct flavours and served piping hot. What I found different here, as compared to other
restaurants, was the fact that the food was not oily! Their idiappams melted in the mouth.

The “kappa meen” curry was excellent as was the puttu kadala. The waiters were helpful in
translating to the uninitiated like me and their recommendations worked out well for me. So if in doubt, ask the omnipresent and helpful waiters.

Do try their selection of seafood, prepared in traditional Kerala style. As Punjabi food has become pan-Indian now, this restaurant also had on offer butter chicken and parotta! Catering to popular tastes they also serve kebabs, tikkas and even Chinese food. But their Kerala cuisine is just great.

Chennai and no “meals”? Impossible! So this restaurant serves Meals from 11.30 am till 3.30 pm. The vegetarian meal at Rs. 50 is substantial. The non-veg meal is priced at Rs. 60-70 and pretty wholesome too.

Nalukettu offers home delivery within 3 km radius and seems to be a hot favourite with students. I particularly noticed a lot of young techies who seemed to frequent the place and were familiarly greeted by the staff. Looks like it’s a pocket-friendly and “homely” restaurant.
