Cruisin’ Along the Coastline…

A culinary journey along the Indian coastline can not only be fun, but it can tickle your taste buds and whet your appetite for more!

Kokum is indeed, a restaurant with a difference! It brings together the flavours of Goan seafood, Mangalorean spices, Andhra chillies, Chettinad cuisine and the aromas from God’s own country to create a delicious menu! Finally an “ Indian” restaurant…

The interiors are simple without any specific regional flavours. A Kerala boat gently clings to one wall with a light focused on its form and line. The shimmering silk threads create a curtain of sorts as the undulate in the sea breeze. The walls are painted in earthen shades of terra cotta and brick. The table tops are inlaid with strips of wood in different hues. A welcoming ambience indeed…

Sour Kokum with a dash of soda and syrup makes for an excellent thirst quencher. Miniscule starters are just the right size and just enough to whet your appetite. Take your pick from Goan idlis ( sannas), pungent prawn balchao or chicken cafreal. If you have a healthy appetite, try the thali for a pan India experience, priced at Rs. 600 approximately. Gongura Mamasam or mutton curry is great with the piping hot steamed rice. Not too hungry? Try the Idiyappams and veg / mutton / chicken stew.

Got a sweet tooth? Try the coconut ice cream or pal payasam ( kheer). I strongly recommend the traditional Goan dessert….Bibinca- wafer thin layers of egg and milk pancakes deftly turned into a cake slices.

A good place to take your expat friends, guests from abroad or sea food lovers! It does pretty well as a family restaurant too. Get set for approximately Rs. 500 per head. If you are a die-hard vegetarian, avoid! It may be wise to make a reservation before you land up there.

Good coincidence ,We were in Kokum last evening .Good food and excellent service . If you avoid the prawn stuff ,you can budget it to Rs 300 per head . You dont have to be a die hard vegetarian not to get there .Enough for the veggies too. Nice ambience and worth your time .
