If you are looking for the quintessential European coffee shop ambience, Casa Piccola is a great option.
Everyone in Chennai has heard of two coffee shops for sure - Amethyst and Mocha. But just a hop, skip and jump from the latter is this exquisite place "Casa Piccola". Casa Piccola is in fact similar to the delicious three bread sandwich it offers; in that there are three kinds of coffee environments in the same place! The first option - You can sit in a room with glazed windows and eclectic artifacts and sip a steaming cup or binge on their pastas or grab one of their sandwiches (offered with French fries and tomato/salsa sauce). Once you step out of this haloed room, cool breeze and fresh air greets you. This is the second option (my personal favorite) - a compact sit out with 2 or 3 tables. This setting is ideal to munch on some onion rings (strongly recommended!) or sautéed mushrooms and some cool watermelon juice. From here, when you go up a flight of stairs, you hit a roof-top lounge. There are couches, sofas, cushions; topped with different flavours of hookahs. So you can gather up as a gang, chill in sofas that feel like lazy boys and order your flavour of hookah and some pizza and catch up on all the latest gossip
Named after a street and a luxurious villa in Italy, this place offers not only Italian pizza, pasta and risotto, but a rage of other options too that include crepes, sandwiches, fried veggies etc. In fact, you can make your own sandwich, by choosing your set of four toppings from a list of 6 or 7 options. While Casa picola is also a nice lunch option, it is best suited for an evening hang out. Small yellow lights come up and light the verandah, the coconut trees make an amazing silhouette across the blue sky and the breeze adds taste to your food! Definitely worth an evening hang out!
