OM BHURBHUVAH SUVAH…
International Youth honour the Sun in Chennai
The beginning of a new day dawns with the rising of the Sun. It spreads its
light and energy unconditionally with the universe giving life to all. However,
how often do we stop and think about this amazing power which sustains our
home? How often do we wonder how planet Earth continues to subsist century
after century, millennia after millennia?
The Chinmaya Mission of Chennai had recognised
the importance of this blessing which we experience so meticulously every
single day and had depicted the importance of the Sun by performing a cultural
music and light show dedicated to Surya Devta. The depth of knowledge that
there is to be learnt and appreciated about the sun was shown through the medium
of expressive drama, music, dance and multimedia presentations. It encompassed
all facets concerning this amazing power, which we otherwise fail to recognise
when we think of the sun.
The show produced and performed by the 54 participants of the YEP (Youth
Empowerment Programme) course and the Chennai CHYKS (Chinmaya Yuva Kendra, the youth
wing of Chinmaya Mission) was held on the 6 th December 2007 at the Chinmaya
Mission Heritage Centre , Chennai.
The YEP course is run by the Chinmaya Mission, an organisation founded and
created by H.H Swami Chinmaynanda. Youth from across India and throughout the
world come together for a four month life transforming experience in which they
are rigorously trained in the basics of spiritual wisdom, physical fitness and
management skills through lectures, sports, adventure, fun, practical handling
of events, projects, classes and various other innovative techniques. CHYK
focuses on harnessing youth potential through dynamic spirituality.
Swami Mitranandaji, the Director of All India Chinmaya Yuva Kendra and the
mastermind and coach of the YEP course is the real inspiration behind this
project. He believes that such a venture “gives a field to the youth to
channalise their energy towards something positive” and a cultural theme such
as Surya “is always inspiring and motivating to the participants as well as the
audience.”
Every aspect of the show had been thought of and conceived by the
participants of the YEP and the Chennai CHYKS. They had been entrusted with the
sole responsibility of the visual, musical and logistical components of the
show. From the writing of the script, the composition of the music and
lyrics, the choreography of the dances, to the publicity, sponsorship and
finally the act of performing on the day all had manifested from the
encouragement, blessings and the platform provided by Swami Mitranandaji.
The show also included an explanation of the origin and significance of
world famous prayers and practices including the Gayatri Mantra and a powerful demonstration
of Surya Namaskar. Rich and colourful music and dances from a variety of Indian
cultures such as Lohri and Pongal as well as other world cultures were
performed.
Accompanied by a striking and vivid multimedia presentation playing in the
background which is sure to stimulate not only your senses but also your mind
and inspire you to realise the miracle that is the sun, as it has inspired the
youth of the Chinmaya Mission.
The show was such an entertainer and enlightener, it left the audience spell
bound hours after it was over!!
